RE–X–BEND

Re-x-bend describes a sustainable sneaker with a flexible closure.

Laces are a big wearing part on sneakers - and most of the time their task, that of customizing through lacing, is neglected: through left open, "stuffed in" or misused as "decoration". At the same time, they are a major stumbling block or even an obstacle to wearing shoes properly.

So why not a system that guarantees individualization and adaptability and is easy to use at the same time?

The re-x-bend describes a reduced sneaker with a canvas upper and a two-piece outsole. By playing with contrasts, the focus is on the closure system - an elastic band that runs once around the entire sneaker. This gives great room for customization and individualization, combined with accessibility for simplified closure.

Process

The goal was to develop a shoe that makes a difference, that helps people and that doesn't look like a health shoe. So I was looking for a closure system that would be comfortable, easy to open, change and handle, and also interchangeable and customizable. So I experimented a lot with closures and materials.

Most accessible shoes do not look aesthetically pleasing, feel unstable, have uncomfortable pressure points, or are not as easy to use as they should be.
Therefore, the focus was on designing a reduced, comfortable and aesthetic sneaker for all.

This included experimenting with different materials and cuts of the uppers to achieve the best possible result.
